We named them after writers who believed that how you spend your time is how you spend your life.Thoreau retreated to the woods to live deliberately. Whitman walked, observed, and felt everything. Emerson argued that beauty is its own justification. Walden - the place Thoreau chose - became shorthand for a simpler, more considered existence. These are not random names. They are an intention.

Each of the four studios and suites at Domaine Aari Ona was designed by Jens Eric Büttner and built entirely by local Béarnaise and Basque artisans. The timber on the walls and in the furniture was sourced from sawmills deep in the Basque Country – each piece chosen for its grain, its age, its character. Wardrobes, shelves, dining tables – all made by hand, for this place, for these rooms.
Nothing that could be anywhere else.

The interiors are dressed with authentic design objects from the owner’s personal collection – mid-century modern classics alongside contemporary pieces, artwork, photography, sculpture, and prints. Every object has a provenance. Every object tells something.

And if one of them speaks to you, it can be yours.
